Formerly known as: Manor Cottages VILLAGE STREET.
5 cottages, now one house. C16/C17 with early-mid C20
alterations and additions by LL Dussault. Timber-frame with
plaster infill; coursed squared blue lias limestone to left
end; steeply pitched half-hipped thatched roof with 2 brick
cross-axial stacks and stack to front of ridge. Double-depth
plan.
EXTERIOR: single-storey plus attic; 4-window range with
cross-wing to left end and C20 addition to right end; stone
left end breaks forward under timber-framed gable, and
half-hipped wing to right of centre. Central entrance has
gabled thatched open porch and stone jambs and lintel to C20
half-glazed door; to left end a basement entrance with lintel
consisting of 3-light mullioned window. Windows have leaded
glazing, mostly to C20 casements.
To left of entrance a 1:3:1-light canted bay window with
wooden ovolo mullions and hipped stone slate roof and scrolly
bracket; left end has 3-light recessed-chamfered mullioned
window.
To right of entrance 2 3-light casements, with some stained
glass fragments; 2-light and single-light casements to wing
and end canted bay window. First floor has 2 gabled dormers
with 3-light casements, 3-light casement to left end and 2-
plus 2-light casement to right end.
Rear has lean-to outshut to left of C20 loggia with timber
posts and 2- and 3-light first-floor casements; double-gabled
wing has stair window with 4-light casement, and end wing with
3-light window as to front and 4-light first-floor casement.
Left return has 3-light mullioned window and gabled timber
garden seat to left of recessed half-hipped gable with
1:4:1-light canted bay window under hipped roof with entrance
to return and first-floor canted oriel. M-gable to right
return.
INTERIOR: chamfered beams; room to right with large fireplace
with bressumer, bread oven and recess with door; flat joists
are probably re-used rails; hall has C20 imperial stair with
splat balusters; first floor has partly exposed tie beam and
collar trusses and wall post heads to 5-bay roof, ends of
principals crossed.
