Farmhouse. Late C17 with early C19 alterations and additions.
Timber-frame with brick infill and brick, blue lias rubble to
cellar; partly renewed tile roof with brick stacks to rear.
PLAN: 2-unit plan with 2 rear wings forming rectangular plan;
single-storey service wing to rear.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attic; symmetrical 3-window range.
Early C19 brick front has top modillioned brick cornice taken
over gablet. Entrance has wooden architrave and bracketed
gabled canopy to small-paned overlight and 6-flush-panel door.
Segmental-headed windows to ground floor have 3-light
transomed and pegged small-paned casements with iron opening
casements; similar windows to first floor flank
segmental-headed 2-light window with similar cross-casement;
gablet has blind lunette. Gabled roof.
Left return has exposed square framing and 2-light small-paned
casement to each floor; wing has modillioned brick cornice and
canted bay window with small-paned glazing under hipped slate
roof and 3-light small-paned casement over; cross-axial stack.
Right return has brick cladding to gable; wing has exposed
timber-frame and some brick repair to ground floor; 2-light
small-paned casements; cross-axial stack.
Rear has 2 gables, that to left of exposed timber-frame with
single-storey wing with hipped roof with gablet and stack,
lean-to porch and brick wing to right part projecting under
asymmetrical gable; entrance with 6-panel door; right return
of single-storey wing has entrance with wide-boarded door and
window with 3-light small-paned casement; right wing has
window in former entrance, segmental-headed window with
3-light pegged small-paned casement and similar 2-light
casement to attic.
INTERIOR: chamfered beams with moulded stops, some exposed
studs and wall beams; ground floor is flagged, room to right
has large fireplace with chamfered bressumer, room to rear has
partition with re-set 3-light small-paned casement with
original leaded glazing; pump to porch and large fireplace to
service wing with bressumer, offset breast, bread oven and pot
bracket, copper to corner; roof has trusses with collars and
queen struts, and wind braces, gypsum floor to rear; cellar
has stone benches and salting block.
