GV II
Bank, with flat over. C19 facade, with ground-floor shop-front
c1880; restored c1990. Bath stone ashlar, with rendering above
ground floor level colourwashed with scribed false joints,
hipped Welsh slate double roof, rendered brick chimney stacks.
Classical style.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 6 bays. Ground floor all in ashlar, with
semicircular arched openings to each end, that to left with
6-panelled door under plain fanlight, and on right with heavy
cast-iron gate and overpanel, central doorway with derivative
egg-and-dart moulding, flanked by portico having quasi-Ionic
pilasters on plinth and swan-neck pediment surmounted by
triangular pediment, featuring panels in which is the work
'Bank', then a swag, a blind panel and underneath 'Established
1835'. On either side of doorway are 3 sets of casement
windows separated by quasi-Ionic pilasters, with non-classical
frieze and cornice over.
To first and second floor are sash windows in moulded stone
architraves, 12-pane below and 9-pane above, projecting
cornice, and plain parapet.
