Includes: No.53 SOUTH STREET.
Shop with house over, formerly a public house, with warehouse
to rear. c1840. Doulting stone ashlar, hipped Welsh slate roof
behind tall parapet.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, single bay. C20 shop front with door in
deep recess to right, with incised flanking pilaster strips
and partly concealed cornice to very slim fascia. First floor
has a 16-pane sash window with simple architrave and moulded
flat hood on console brackets, second floor has a smaller
16-pane sash window in plain ashlar, all flanked by end
pilaster strips with incised line decoration, cornice and
plain parapet.
INTERIOR: ground floor modified to form shop. C19 toplit
staircase to house over having turned newels, stick balusters
and deal handrail (ground to first floor section removed).
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: No.53 South Street to rear, a C19
two-storey warehouse with King-post roof, slate covered, on
stone rubble and part rendered walls. Early C19 bonded cellars
below shop, house and warehouse with brick vaults and
remaining stone bins.
