House over shop, now cafe. c1910. Faience tiled, double Roman
clay tile roof, brick chimney stacks.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attics in twin gables, 2 bays. Shop
front mostly original, set under very wide elliptical arch,
with full-width fanlight having leaded rectangular panes, with
some bullion glass, in bronzed frames, central oak glazed
door; to the right a part glazed door to the upper floors. To
first floor a pair of curved 4-light-with-transom leaded oriel
windows each on a single scroll bracket, with cornices under
flat roofs, small leaded single-light windows to gables,
ornamental gutter boxes and downpipes to either side. Wrought
iron bracket and hanging sign between oriel windows. The
gables with faience copings to moulded edge.
INTERIOR: ground floor consistent with early C20 date, first
floor and attics not inspected.
Listed as good and relatively unaltered example in genre,
sympathetic to and continuing the historic interest of the
street. Included as a fine example of an early C20 commercial
property with Art Nouveau influences.
