No.59)

GV II

House on curved corner site, with shop. Early C18. Rendered
and colourwashed, Welsh slate roof on curve, hipped at west
end, shortened brick chimney stacks; No.61 has clay pantiled
roof between abutments.
EXTERIOR: No.59 three-storey, 3 bays, No.61 two storeys, 2
bays. No.59 has largely C19 shop front to ground floor, with 3
display windows, one subdivided, flanked by narrow pilasters,
under slim fascia with thin wide projection timber cornice,
preferable double doors in centre of curve replaced with late
C20 door and sidelight. Upper floors have 12-pane sash windows
with thick glazing bars.
No.61 mostly a C20 rebuild, with C20 windows, that to lower
bay 1 in apparent old position, then a blocked centre door and
new part-glazed door to right, to first floor are a metal
casement and a 12-pane sash window. Ground floor of No.59
modified for shop, access to upper floors now through No.61.
INTERIOR: stair from first to second floor, hardwood handrail,
turned newel and stick balusters, probably original. First
floor partitions altered, but second floor partitions and door
cases remain, as does an early C19 fireplace with cast-iron
hearth.
