House at end of short row. Some C17 fabric, late C18 or early
C19 facade. Roughcast, Welsh slate and pantile roofs with
abutment to north, coped gable to south, brick chimney stack.
A parallel range building with central gutter; the rear range
less wide than the front, probably an earlier fabric separate
from the street range.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 2 bays. Plinth in stone, double plain
sash window to bay 2, with flat-roofed oriel window above, bay
1 has a 6-panel door, up 2 steps, with plain rectangular
fanlight set under a moulded timber hood on console brackets,
with plain sash window to first floor. South gabled ends are
covered by an additional coped retaining wall, dating from
clearance of adjoining site to form the Swan Garden, c1869.
The rear has a steep roof to a coped S gable with a 4-pane
sash gabled dormer above 2 large, close-set but staggered
4-pane sashes; these both cut through a horizontal stone
drip-course or string. The ground floor has a doorway far
left, and tripartite plain sash.
A brick stack rises through the rubble S gable, and there is a
stone stack to the right (N), raised in brick (but this may be
a former external stack to the adjoining No.18 (qv)).
INTERIOR: not inspected.
