GV II

Pair of houses in row, formerly 3 cottages. C18, with early
C19 front range. Rendered with false ashlar joints, Mansard
roof covered with double Roman clay tiles, brick chimney
stacks. Front range originally a row of 3 cottages, each with
one heated room and winder stair opposite stack; 2 outer cross
passages remain from original 3; to rear right is older bakery
range; C20 rear extensions.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 3 bays almost symmetrical facade. Plinth,
3-light small pane casement windows with segmental-arched
openings to all but lower bay 3m, which has a former shop
window, a bow of 32 panes on shallow riser, with shallow
fascia, cornice and flat roof. Between bays 1 and 2 and bays 2
and 3 are C19 2-panel doors, also set in segmental-arched
openings. No.30 was originally a bakery, and traces of the
oven/bakehouse said to survive at the rear.
INTERIOR: not inspected, but noted by VAG as having early C19
joinery, fireplaces and stair inscribed W. Grist 1819.
A complete and little altered property with a notable example
of an early C19 shop window.
