GV II

Manor house, now farmhouse. C16 with later additions and
alterations. Stone rubble and painted timber frame with
painted infill panels. Plain-tile roofs. Central moulded brick
stack with oversailing cap, integral brick eaves stack.
Roughly E-shaped on plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic. South-east front with 3 gables,
the central framed gable recessed. Left-hand gable is stone
rubble with single wood mullion and transom window at both
storeys in brick segmental arched openings, return side to
right having full-height close-studded framing with middle
rail. Central gable with 3-light casement in brick
segmental-arched opening at ground floor, framed gable truss
over with close studding under 2-light first-floor casement
and herringbone pattern braces each side, cambered tie beam,
vertical strut with herringbone pattern raking struts in gable
end. Small stone gabled entrance porch to centre right.
Right-hand gable of stone rubble with single casements in
brick segmental-arched openings at all 3 storeys. Right return
side of gable has lean-to porch, tiled bread oven and brick
segmental-arched casement.
North-west side: central 2-window range of 2-light and 3-light
casements; stone gable to left with brick segmental arched
casements at first and attic levels, ground-floor door to
right, left side masked by projecting farm building to north
(qv). Framed gable to right of square framing 2 panels high on
high stone plinth, straight tie beam, vertical struts with 2
collars and twin raking struts over. Stone steps up to boarded
door inset in framing. Right return side of gable has
continuation of square framing 2 panels high on a high brick
plinth to centre, and stone rubble to the remainder.
INTERIOR: kitchen has some interesting panelling with carved
frieze and carved lintel over chimney; ceiling with heavy
timbers and chamfered joists.
