Burway House including railings

Free school then house c1860 then surgery now flats. Early C19
rebuild of earlier core. Painted brick with painted stone
rubble to rear wing. Slate roof, hipped to east, with integral
brick gable-end stacks. Square plan of two ranges parallel to
road.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys. South front is a 3-storey, 3-window range
of tall 2-light C19 casements with painted flat lintels with
raised keyblocks. Right-hand ground-floor window replaced with
slate-roofed canted bay window. Projecting enclosed
slate-roofed entrance porch to centre right with pedimented
gable on consoles, partly glazed panelled door and top light.
West side: casement at each storey in rear range, single
casement at the upper level of the front range. East side:
3-storey, 2-window range of casement windows in either brick
segmental arched openings or plain openings with flat lintels
with raised keystones. Rear: stone rubble to left and brick to
right with brick dentil course eaves, C20 casements.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: cast-iron railings and gates attached to
both sides of porch and returning along the west boundary
consisting of arrow-head standards and spike-headed main
standards.
