Rectory, now 3 houses. Early C19 incorporating earlier
structure. Painted render and painted brick. Low pitch slate
roofs with graduated slates to rear, with deep eaves with
coupled brackets, gabled to front and hipped to rear. Integral
brick ridge stacks and partly projecting brick eaves stacks to
east and west sides. L-shape plan with later side extensions
to the east and infill extensions to north.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. South front with central 2-storey,
3-window range of 3/3 sashes at first floor and two 6/6 sashes
at ground floor, flanked by advanced bays of two 6/6 sashes
surmounted by pedimented gables with coupled modillioned crown
mould. Ground-floor sashes are tall with low sills and have
carved wood upper sash hoods.
East return side with 6/6 sash and partly covered with 2
storey service wing which has C20 casements. West entrance
front: four 6/6 sashes at first storey; central partly
projecting Doric portico of pilastered sides and 2 columns
under flat entablature, panelled door with side lights and
fanlight with radial glazing bars, renewed 6/6 sash to left,
portico flanked by partly projecting stacks. Remaining sides
mostly covered with late C19 and C20 extensions.
INTERIOR: main ground-floor rooms have moulded cornices and
dado rails and moulded 6-panelled doors. Hall has helical
staircase with curtail step, wrought-iron balustrade with cast
lead details; and rotunda top light. Front room has Doric
moulded cornice, coffered ceiling with figurative centre
moulding and projecting door heads.
The grounds are reputed to have been laid out by Capability
Brown.
