Farmhouse. Late C16. Painted timber frame with painted
rendered and painted brick infill panels on stone rubble
plinth, brick cross wing and extensions. Plain-tile roofs.
Large projecting eaves stacks with spurred brick shafts and
C19 caps. L-shaped original plan consisting of 2-framed-bay
main range with brick cross wing, with late C17 and C19
extensions.
EXTERIOR: 2 storey and attic. East front with square panelling
3 panels high at first floor mostly with raking studs forming
decorative framing, jettied with double-cyma and ovolo moulded
bressumer on carved console brackets over square-framed ground
floor, 3 panels high, with dragon post to right. 2 C19 metal
2-light casements with top-lights at first floor and single
3-light casement with top-lights at ground floor, C19 front
door to left with C20 porch. C19 brick lean-to to left.
North return gable: first and second floor framing similar to
east front with additional ground level tension brace. Single
casement at ground floor and C19 2-light metal casement
inserted to the right of former framed window opening at first
floor. Gable-end truss with jettied tie beam with
double-ovolo-moulded soffit chamfer set on carved console
brackets, vertical struts with middle rail framing attic
2-light casement with collar and raking struts above.
Double-ovolo and cyma moulded bargeboards.
West side of main range: to left is framing as east front but
without the jetty, to right is a pair of large projecting C16
brick stacks which flank brick cross wing gable-end with brick
saddleback coped gables of stepped merlons and with attic
window with moulded brick surround. Cross wing gable and
right-hand stack covered by projecting tiled gabled extension.
Extension to south is C17 single timber-framed bay with square
framing 3 panels high surviving on the south side and the east
gable-end truss visible behind the C19 brick lean-to
extension.
INTERIOR: ovolo-chamfered bridging beam and cross-bridging
beam. Chamfered floor joists with stepped concave chamfer
stops. Painted timber carved crest with rampant lion inset in
ground floor wall.
Part of a larger Manor House partly destroyed by fire in C19.
