House. c1785 to early C19. Painted brick with cogged brick
course under deep eaves with hipped slate roof. Part
projecting eaves chimneys. Integral gable end chimneys to rear
wings. Rectangular main block with 2 parallel rear wings.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with 2-storey rear wings. 3-window facade
of 6/6 sashes with 8/8 sashes at ground level and 3/3 sashes
at second-floor level. Sashes have fluted architraves,
cornices and stone sills. Central 4-centred doorway with
glazed door with gothick-style glazing bars. Left return side:
to right is a projecting 2-storey semicircular bay with
conical slate roof; 6/6 sash window over glazed doors with
side lights with surrounds as the front but with additional
pendant serrated cornice boards. To left is one 8/8 sash to
ground floor.
Rear: to right is one 6/6 sash and a 3/3 second-floor sash; at
ground floor a pair of 3-light glazed doors with top light and
fluted architraves and pendant panelled cornice board. To
centre a flat-roofed first-floor outshut with 6/6 sash as the
front, now partially open at ground level with glazed door
similar to the front door. Remainder of rear elevation partly
masked by south service wing. Right return side: 6/6
first-floor sash to right in brick segmental-arched opening
and 3/3 sash to second-floor level. Ground floor masked by C20
flat-roofed extension.
INTERIOR: C18 staircase. Interiors with original features
generally complete.
Service wing to south: C18 service wing with former
carriageway arches still evident amidst C20 re-fenestration.
C17 joists and bridging beam. Service wing to north: C18 core
to 2-storey wing, altered in C19. 3-window range facing
north-west with 3/6 sash to left with doorcase under with open
pediment canopy set on brackets.
