House. Late C16 and C17, remodelled late C18. Painted brick
with timber-framed rear gable. Plain brick storey band with
indented bands at attic gables. Slate roof with C19 ornamental
serrated bargeboards and fascia to front. Central brick ridge
stack, projecting stepped brick eaves chimney stacks at each
wing. U-shaped plan of main range with 2 projecting wings.
EXTERIOR: 2-storey, attic and cellar. Front is 4-window range
with outer windows set in projecting gabled wings each side.
C18 wood mullioned windows with stone sills and restored
leaded lights: large 2-mullion and transom window in each
storey of wings, with metal multi-pane window replacement to
ground floor wing to left. Central 2-window range of
single-mullion windows with 2-mullion window at ground level
to right and metal multi-pane replacement window to left.
Casement window in attic gables. Wing returns with C20 metal
casements at first and ground floors. Central entrance door
with simple canopy: glazed door with 2-panel lower section set
in doorcase with panelled reveals and open-pediment canopy on
curved brackets.
Right return side: 2 C20 casements with leaded lights over C20
lean-to. Left return side: partly rendered timber-frame on
stone and brick plinth. Rear with 2 restored casements at
first floor: C17 chamfered mullioned 2-light casement to right
and C20 restored casement to left. 3 C2O 2-light casements and
glazed door at ground-floor level, all casements with leaded
lights. Timber-framed gable-end to right of square panels,
restored sill, girding beam, studs with mid rails, jowled
posts, swept brace, cambered tie beam, vertical strut and
collar. Single clasped purlin roof evident.
INTERIOR: centre and right-hand wing form 3 bays of C17 origin
with chamfered bridging beams and cross bridging beams with
ogee-chamfer stops, and single trenched purlin roof under C18
raised eaves. Left-hand end bay probably C16 and has cellar
with ashlar winding stairs adjacent to large rubble stack.
