Farmhouse, now house. C15 main front range, with C16, C17, C18
and C19 alterations and additions. Rubble stone and coursed
stone rubble. Plain clay tiles. Central brick ridge stack,
projecting eaves and verge stone stacks with brick upper
shafts. L-shaped plan of original C15 3-window range and C16
and C17 4-window range cross wing with infilling extension
wings.
EXTERIOR: 2-storey and attic. North-west front has entrance
door under C20 projecting lean-to porch with 2-light casement
over. To right mullion and transom window with flat stone
keyed lintel with keyblock and vestigial hoodmould. To left
C20 casements in main range and gable-end of the cross wing
with brick segmental arches. C20 door and C20 dormer.
North-east return: 2-storey, 2-window range of 2-light
casements to left and 3-light to right, with stepped
hoodmoulds to ground floor, flanked to left with glazed door
and stone stack. South-east side: projecting gables flanking
central gable. Restored stone mullion windows to end gable of
C17 wing with original mullions to cellar window only. C20
windows under restored lintels to remainder. South-west side:
projecting gable-end of main range to left with projecting
stone stack and 2-light casement at first floor. C18 wing to
right with projecting stone eaves stack and C20 casement with
stone keyed lintel and hoodmould on each storey.
INTERIOR: main front range has single trenched-purlin roof
with chamfered purlins and diagonally-set ridge. 2 trusses to
south bay consist of cambered tie beam, 3 vertical struts,
collar with twin raking struts. Inner truss has square framing
to cross wall. Central 2 bays form former medieval open hall:
heavy single purlins with, in common with other main members,
hollow chamfers and run-out stops. Central hall open truss:
arched braced base crucks with cambered collar with central
vertical strut and twin cusped raking-struts over. Hall end
truss: deeply chamfered cambered tie beam with vertical strut,
collar with twin raking struts over, square framing under tie
beam with cambered girding beam with bowtell-moulded chamfer.
Hall bays infilled with C17 deeply chamfered bridging beams
and chamfered floor joists. Cross wing of 2 C16 bays with
double trenched-purlin roof and 2 trusses, each with a single
vertical strut flanked by twin raking struts under collar and
with truncated principals. Cross-frames below have square
framing with upper tension braces, girding beams, jowled
posts, and arched door-head. C17 cross wing extension has 2
trusses, one with 2 vertical struts and collar, one with twin
raking struts. Deep chamfered bridging beams.
