The Quarry
II
Farmhouse. Early C17, with C18 extension. Painted timber-frame
with painted brick infill and some weatherboarding on rubble
stone plinth. Coursed stone rubble with ashlar quoins to east
gable. Brick central chimney with diagonal brick shafts,
integral brick eaves stack to rear. T-shaped plan with main
range with central cross wing to south and further south wing
extension.
EXTERIOR: 2-storey, cellar and attic. East entrance front with
projecting gable to right is C18 rebuild in coursed rubble
with C20 casements under flat stone keyed lintels with
keystone at ground level, end roof truss rendered, south
return side square-framed. Cross-wing east side to left with
square framing at first floor underbuilt with brick on stone
plinth, C20 casements, partly masked by lean-to entrance
porch. Cross wing return gable-end: square framing complete
except for weatherboarding above collar of end-truss. North
return side: 3-bays of square framing 4 panels high,
comprising girding beam, studs with middle rails, and brace.
Central C20 door and porch. 2-light casements. Rear to west:
projecting square-framed gable-end to left with weatherboarded
truss, with casements at first and ground floors. To right,
cross wing west side with square-framing and 3-light casement,
masked at ground level by tile-roofed framed outshut. South
extension wing: single-storey and attic with square-framed
attic floor set on rubble ground floor with brick to west.
Gable-end truss-framing with 3 vertical struts and collar
infilled and underbuilt with brick. C20 casements in dormers
and ground-floor windows.
