Farmhouse. C16 with C19 alterations and extensions. Painted
timber-frame with painted render or brick infill on brick
plinth, stone rubble, and brick. Plain-tile roof. Central
brick stack with 4 spurred shafts and ornamental capping,
projecting brick eaves stack to rear. T-shaped original plan
of range and cross wing with C19 brick extension and rear
lean-to extensions.
EXTERIOR: 2-storey and attic. South front has much restored
and renewed square-framing 3 panels high per floor with
decorative inset raking studs at first floor. Single C19 wood
mullioned window to each floor and 3-light casement in attic
of cross wing to left. Main range to right with one C19 wood
mullion and transom window to each floor. Left-hand return
gable: square framing with brace each side and single
first-floor casement, but otherwise covered by single-storey
and attic projecting brick gabled wing. Wing rebuilt with mid
C19 banded polychrome brick with segmental-arched window
openings at ground floor and 3 dormers over with lattice
leading. Old nail-studded boarded door to right. Right-hand
return gable: rebuilt in C19 brick with 2 casements and single
casements at attic and ground floor, all with brick segmental
arches.
Rear generally covered by brick and stone, tile-roofed,
continuous lean-to but with cross wing gable framing exposed
above first-floor window level. Gable-end truss with
part-jettied straight tie beam, 2 collars with twin raking
struts over, 4 vertical struts framing 2-light casement
between, and below are 3 vertical struts flanking panels with
convex struts forming star pattern. Tie beam has soffit of
double-ovolo chamfer-moulding with stops for oriel window. C19
mullion and transom replacement window is flanked by square
framing with inset raking studs forming herringbone pattern.
3-light casement inset to the left with abutting framed
outshut.
INTERIOR: ceiling beams with ribbed chamfered edging, the
ribbing continued along the outward-turning chamfered stops at
beam ends.
