Farmhouse with byre. C13 and C16. Stone rubble with ashlar
dressings. Plain-tile roof. C16 central stone stack with C20
brick shaft. Projecting stone gable-end stacks with brick
upper shafts. L-shaped plan of 4-window range aligned
north-south and rear cross wing. 2 bays at south of front
range is surviving medieval range now used as byre.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic. To left of east front are bays
with surviving medieval evidence; tall lancet with
stone-blocked lower section, granary steps partly masking
ground-floor stone mullion windows, with evidence of similar
window blocked at first floor at plain boarded door. To centre
are 3 oak mullioned windows with leaded lights at first-floor
level, with ground-floor 6-panelled entrance door with upper
panels glazed, covered by C20 tiled gabled open porch. To
right on both floors is wood mullion and transom window with
leaded lights. Right return side: gable end of main range has
central projecting stone stack flanked by timber transom
windows with leaded lights at both floors. Cross wing north
wall with 3-light stone mullion with vestigial hoodmould over,
2-light casement at ground floor. Brick and stone
single-storey lean-to and gabled extensions to right end. Left
return side with large c1950 buttress at centre, tall cusped
lancet opening to left, stone-blocked window to right. Gable
apex rendered above ashlar string course and with illegible
inscribed tablet inset. Rear to west: 2 central tall lancets
with chamfered reveals, one with stone transom, one
stone-blocked, with dove holes and ledges below eaves. To
right is a slit window, blocked stone mullion window, later
inserted plain boarded door with brick segmental arch, 2-light
casement at first floor. To left C20 door and window over.
Rear of cross-wing (south): 2 C20 casements in earlier
openings with straight hoodmoulds.
INTERIOR: south bay of main range has heavy oak plank
first-floor floorboards, probably medieval, on plain bridging
beam. Next bay has C16 inserted first-floor frame into
probable medieval open hall. C16 inserted stone stack in the
next bay with large fireplace facing into former open hall
with large Tudor-arched mantlebeam. C16 oak dogleg staircase.
Square-framed lateral and cross-frame internal partitions.
Complete main range re-roofed in C16 with double
trenched-purlin roof with diagonally-set ridge, large straight
wind braces, and 6 trusses:
2 trusses with twin pairs of raking struts below collar, and 4
trusses with 4 vertical struts below collar with twin raking
struts over. Truss in south bay is closed at attic level with
wattle and daub panels. King-post trusses in cross wing.
