Lime kiln in Keldishaw field at SD
684 864

Lime kiln. Now disused. Probably mid to later C19. Sandstone
and limestone rubble brought to courses, with stone slate
lacing. Rectangular, with battered front and sides: 6.2m wide
at the base and 5.7m deep, facing east, with earth ramp to
rear. Now approx. 5.4m high, and lacking the top 2 or 3
courses. Flat-arched opening to draw-hole, with rubble
voussoirs. Round bowl on top partly filled in. Good example of
its type, close to former limestone quarry known as Stoney
Rigg.
