GV II
Farmhouse, now derelict and ruinous. Probably early to mid
C18; altered. Roughly-coursed blue ragstone rubble with some
sandstone, sandstone quoins and gritstone dressings, stone
slate roof (partly collapsed). Shallow double-depth plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, formerly 2 windows and formerly almost
symmetrical but most of left half of front wall now collapsed.
Ground floor has gabled porch (now roofless) with
square-headed doorway, stone-slate drip-course and above this
the lower 2 tiers of a formerly 3-tier triangular pattern of
pigeon holes; the wall to the left has mostly collapsed
(revealing former mullions re-used as through-stones); to the
right each floor has a relatively small rectangular window
(formerly sashed but now lacking joinery). The left gable wall
(partly collapsed) has 2 small chamfered 1-light windows near
the corners of the ground floor, prominent through-stones, one
remaining chimney-corbel and to the rear of this an attic
window like those at ground floor. The rear has a complete set
of mullioned windows with chamfered flush-mullions: 3, 2 and 2
lights at ground floor (the 1st and 2nd each with one blocked
light); a 2-light stair-window in the centre (lacking the
mullion) and 3 widely-separated 2-light windows at 1st floor
(that to the left lacking the mullion).
INTERIOR: former housepart to left, parlour to right, shallow
service rooms to rear and former staircase between these;
surviving right-hand portion of roof has C19 or C20 trusses,
but collapsed portion had original C18 trusses; otherwise, no
surviving features of interest. Forms group with barn approx.
50m south (qv).
