Farmhouse, with attached laundry wing, now all one dwelling.
Probably mid C18, extended probably in late C18; altered, and
laundry wing added in later C19. Mixed random rubble, the
front white-washed; slate roof with some stone slate.
Single-depth 2-unit plan on east-west axis with one unit added
at east end and laundry wing added at west end.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 1:2:1 windows. The 2-window main range,
almost symmetrical, has a small gabled porch in the centre
with a square-headed opening, stone side benches and a stone
slate roof (and remains of an earlier higher gable above), a
9-pane fixed window to the left with one opening pane, a large
16-pane sash to the right (with renewed joinery), and at 1st
floor a small sash to the left and a larger 4-pane sash to the
right. Rectangular chimneys at both former gables. The added
bay to the right has a 2-light casement with glazing bars at
ground floor, a 9-pane sash above, and a square chimney at the
right-hand corner; its gable wall has a doorway and window at
ground floor, through-stones on 2 levels above, and a ball
finial at the apex. The gable of the wing to the left,
breaking forwards slightly, has a French window at ground
floor, a damaged 9-pane sash at 1st floor and a small re-used
round-headed window in the gable. Rear: small windows to dairy
(etc); 1st-floor loading door and corner chimney to laundry
wing.
INTERIOR: main range has fielded panel partitions at ground
floor enclosing dairy and stone-winder staircase; C18 stone
fireplace with corbelled lintel in housepart. Laundry wing has
lower floor level, cross-corner fireplace, and servants'
staircase.
HISTORICAL NOTE: wing served as laundry to Gate House (qv).
Forms group with barn to east (qv).
