Farmhouse. Probably late C17, enlarged in C18 and altered in
C19 and C20. Roughly coursed sandstone rubble mostly painted
white, stone slate roof. Single-depth 3-unit plan on east-west
axis facing south (the western unit probably an early
addition) with an integral outbuilding at the east end and an
outshut to the rear.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and 1:2 widely separated windows. The
2-window portion in the centre has a former doorway offset
slightly right of centre altered as a window, and a former
window to the right of that altered as a doorway; an oblong
8-pane sash to the left at ground floor and square 6-pane
sashes at 1st floor above the outer openings at ground floor
(that to the right set slightly higher than that to the left).
The 1-unit portion to the left has a doorway abutting the
junction, a window to the left with altered glazing and a
6-pane sash above. Gable chimney to left, ridge chimney at
junction. Store at right hand end. Rear: random
through-stones; pairs of sashed windows flanking the junction
on both floors (6-pane at ground floor, 4-pane above); and a
small round-headed 1-light window with hollow spandrels at
ground floor to the left (and a small shouldered window at 1st
floor above that inserted c1959).
INTERIOR: west bay has large cambered lateral beam approx. 2.5
metres from end wall; centre bay has 2 axial beams; roof
trusses with exposed tie-beams at 1st floor of centre and west
bays, the former with re-used cruck blades as principals.
Forms group with stable range to west (qv).
