Haw), Barn to south and Barn to east)

GV II

Farmhouse. Probably later C17; altered. Random rubble with
quoins, the front whitewashed; stone slate roof. Single-depth
2-unit plan on east-west axis, facing south, with gabled rear
wing to right-hand half containing staircase and dairy; plus
an added lean-to in the rear angle.
EXTERIOR: 2 low storeys, 4 windows. In the centre is a large
single-storey gabled porch which has a square-headed doorway
with a simple hoodmould, a board door and stone side benches;
to the left, an unusual stepped 3-light window
(Venetian-style) which has chamfered mullions and a
round-headed centre light with medallion spandrels, and a thin
hoodmould stepped over this; to the right, a square 6-pane
sash and a narrow 4-pane casement (the fire-window). The 1st
floor has a 2-light casement and a 6-pane sash to the left,
and a similar casement and a narrow 6-pane window to the
right. Very prominent extruded chimney stack at left gable,
with 2 stone slate bands and a cornice; gable chimney to
right. Left gable wall has a small chamfered 1-light window
near front corner. Rear: gable of wing has narrow 6-pane
stair-window; lean-to with corrugated iron roof.
INTERIOR: housepart to right, parlour to left; lateral stone
partition wall inserted in housepart to form entrance hall; 2
large lateral beams in housepart (the 2nd formerly the
smokehood bressumer), with stop-chamfered joists to both sides
of the first (those to left passing through partition wall);
similar beam and joists in parlour; dog-legged staircase with
slender turned balusters; C18 panelled door in chamber over
housepart.
