GV II
Farmhouse, probably with attached barn; now house and
farmhouse respectively. Original farmhouse dated 1677 over
doorway in north wall; present farmhouse perhaps contemporary
but remodelled and altered. Mixed random rubble, the north
side roughcast, roof of slate with stone slate in the lower
courses and stone ridge and gable copings. Single-depth
rectangular plan on east-west axis, the original farmhouse
being the shorter eastern portion, probably originally 2 bays
and facing south.
EXTERIOR: the present north front of this portion, 3 unequal
storeys and 3 windows, has a blocked slightly segmental-headed
doorway offset right, with painted stone surround, a small
panel on the lintel with raised lettering "1677", and a
hoodmould; to the left at the level of the lintel a small
blocked 1-light window and left of this at ground floor a
slightly larger 1-light window with chamfered surround; to the
right, an inserted doorway; at 1st floor 3 small round-headed
1-light windows; and above that to the left a small blocked
square window immediately under the eaves. The roof has a
broad stone chimney on the ridge at the junction with the
range to the right, a gable chimney to the left and gable
coping with a kneelers. (The longer range to the right has a
broad gabled porch offset left, a window left of this, and a
doorway near the right-hand end flanked by 2 altered windows
on each floor.) The south side of the original house has, in
line with the ridge chimney, the left jamb and part of the
lintel and hoodmould of a former opening at ground floor
(either a doorway or a fire-window), the right-hand side now
broken by an inserted doorway; immediately abutting this
doorway a mullioned window now of 2 lights with a hoodmould
which has a returned end to the right; and further right a
2-light mullioned window. Above these 3 original openings are:
a blocked former 2-light window with a hoodmould (and lacking
the mullion), a 3-light window and a 2-light window. The
windows on both floors have chamfered flush mullions, and
hoodmoulds with returned ends. Further to the right at 1st
floor are remains of a former mullioned window, and above this
a small blocked window immediately under the eaves. (The
longer range to the west has an inserted or badly altered
window on each floor of the nearer bay, and a large
single-storey outbuilding at right-angles.)
INTERIOR of original house remodelled.
