GV II*

Farmhouse, with added peat-house at south-west end. Dated 1712
on porch; altered. Roughly-coursed mixed rubble (mostly blue
ragstone) with sandstone quoins and dressings, graduated green
slate roof. Double-depth double-fronted plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and 3 windows (formerly 4), formerly
symmetrical, with prominent stone-slate courses over both
floors. The ground floor has a gabled porch with wooden lintel
to the opening protected by a stone-slate drip-band, a square
datestone over this with raised lettering "E B / 1712", and a
square-headed inner doorway with double-layered oak door on
strap hinges. To the left of the porch a 6-pane double-hung
sashed window, left of this a 2-light window with 3 panes to
each light and the topmost pane opening as a double-hung sash,
and 2 similar 2-light sashes to the right. The 1st floor has a
similar 2-light sash and a 6-pane double-hung sash to the
left, a larger 3-light sash to the right and a blocked window
right of this. Iron gutter on slender metal brackets approx.
40cm below oversailing eaves. Gable chimneys, both with
stone-slate weather courses and coupled cylindrical shafts,
and that to the right corbelled from 1st floor (visible inside
attached barn, qv). Full-height lean-to peat-house attached to
left gable, with through-passage doorway at junction and
window to left. Rear: lean-to porch offset right, its left
side now integrated with deeper C19 lean-to outhouse, both
roofed with massive stone slabs; chamfered 1-light window at
ground floor, with iron saddle-bar (now covered by outhouse);
tall 2-stage small-paned stair-window above outhouse, and 2
oblong small-paned windows on each floor, each with one
opening pane and a wooden lintel.
INTERIOR: wooden panelled partitions throughout on both floors
(including screen to smokehood at 1st floor), all
muntin-and-plank except that to parlour which is
muntin-and-rail; chamfered beams, including smokehood
bressumer in housepart to right (which has inserted C19
partition to form passage); large mid-C18 stone fireplace with
corbelled lintel; dog-legged stone staircase with closed
string, square newels and turned balusters; collar-truss roof.
Forms group with attached barn (qv).
