Barn approx. 30m south of Fell Yeat
Farmhouse at Side

Bank barn; unoccupied at time of inspection (1994). Probably
earlier C18. Mixed random rubble with large irregular quoins,
stone slate roof (north slope replaced with corrugated
asbestos sheet). Rectangular 4-bay plan at right-angles to
slope, with shippon under north-west end.
EXTERIOR: 2 unequal storeys. The south-west side has a wagon
doorway to the 3rd bay (approached by an L-shaped stone and
earth ramp), with a lintel made of re-used cruck blades
protected by a prominent stone-slate drip-course, and C19
harr-hung doors; to the left a stone-slate drip-course runs
over the shippon storey, which has a blocked 2-light mullioned
window and a doorway right of this altered as a window, and
the wall above has a few random through-stones. The north-west
gable end has a square-headed doorway to the shippon, a
stone-slate band, and 2 courses of through-stones alternating
with 2 levels of small square breathers. The north-east side
has through-stones on 3 levels, small square breathers to the
upper 2 levels, and a blocked wagon doorway to the 3rd bay
which has a lintel and drip-band like those of the south-west
doorway.
INTERIOR: 3 collar trusses, 2 of them with raked struts, and 2
of the principals made of re-used cruck blades; original
purlins to south slope. Forms group with Fell Yeat Farmhouse
(qv).
