Bank barn approx. 50 metres east of
High Branthwaite Farmhouse

GV II

Bank barn. Probably early to mid C18. Slobbered rubble with
through-stones and quoins, stone slate roof. Rectangular plan
(probably 5 bays) on north-south axis, built across a diagonal
slope at the north end, with the shippon at that end. The west
side has through-stones on 6 levels, a square-headed wagon
doorway to the south bay, with an oak lintel and a stone slate
drip-band, slit breathers flanking this and others at shippon
level near the north end. The north gable all has a shippon
doorway. The east side has a wagon doorway almost opposed to
that at the front and similar to it, and a small square-headed
doorway offset right of centre. INTERIOR: 4 pegged C18 collar
trusses. Forms group with High Branthwaite Farmhouse (qv)
which is down the slope to the west.
