Barn, converted to cottages and shops at an early date, now 4
shops. Probably later C17, converted probably in early C19.
Handmade brown brick on rendered plinth, the facade rendered
with scored stucco; slate roof. Long irregular single-depth
plan.
2 low storeys, 1+2+2+2 windows; No.4 at the left end has a C20
shop front in Victorian style; Nos 6 and 8 have a large plain
shop front with doorway to the left, plain fascia and
prominent cornice, and a doorway to the right with moulded
architrave; No.10 has a double-fronted shop front; Nos 12 and
14 have a plain doorway to the left and a small shop window to
the right with lettered fascia. Various windows at 1st floor,
some sashed. Rear: east end canted; small slit breathers of
former barn, and various inserted windows.
INTERIOR not inspected.
An interesting survival of pre-industrial building in the
historic core of Wigan. Forms group with Nos 5 to 9 opposite
(qv).
