II
Detached house, now educational establishment. Early C18,
extended c1830 with minor C20 addition. Finely-dressed ashlar
to C19 ranges, coursed rubble to C18 core with ashlar copings
and slate roofs with gable end and external ashlar stacks.
STYLE: Tudor Gothic Revival.
PLAN: L-shaped plan with C19 addition at south-west corner and
C18 range to north.
EXTERIOR: 3-storey; 3-window range to main block. Symmetrical
south-west facade with gabled bays flanking recessed centre
bridged by porch; gables with coped parapets, kneelers and
apex finials; 2 external gable stacks to left with shafts in
groups of 2 and 3. 3-light mullion and transomed windows to
ground floor with dripstones, similar 2-light windows to
first-floor and 2-light mullion windows to second-floor.
Tudor-arched doorway with battlemented parapet; 2-leaf ribbed
door. South-east facade has further 2, 3 and 4-light
fenestration and 3-light canted bay to ground-floor with
quatrefoil parapet. North-east facade of stepped elements
reveals C18 core, formerly a central recessed 2-window section
with stepped parapet in front of stair well; outer section set
forward, that to south replaced by early C19 range, that to
north a 1-window range. Also gabled range projecting to
north-west; 12/8-pane sashes to ground and first floors and
16-pane sashes to second-floor; multi-paned casement
fenestration to right-hand. C20 extension at south-east angle.
INTERIOR: reeded surrounds to doorways in entrance hall; Tudor
Gothic ribbed ceilings to ground-floor reception rooms. Open
well staircase mahogany handrail, open string and cast-iron
trefoil-headed balusters; 3-light stair-well window with
etched panes in quatrefoil pattern.
