House with rear conservatory and attached front garden wall
and piers. Early C19 with late C19 and mid C20 alterations.
Colourwashed render with stone dressings, ashlar coped
parapet, shallow, hipped slate roofs to west and gabled slate
roof to east with rendered stack to centre, brick stacks to
rear parapet and south gable slope; garden wall of coursed
rubble with ashlar copings and ashlar piers.
STYLE: Late Georgian.
PLAN: originally formed part of St Keyna House (qv),
comprising a rectangular-plan wing with late C19 extension and
remodelling to west front and conservatory added to
south-east.
EXTERIOR: east front of 2 storeys with attic; 4 early C19
6/6-pane sashes to left of canted later C19 bay with similar
horned sashes at angle with St Keyna House; hipped dormers
with late C19 horned 2/2-pane sashes. West front of 3-storeys;
late C19 extension brought forward from plane of early C19
elevation of 5-window range, with centre 3 bays projecting and
outer bays recessed; central reset porch with paired square
columns with incised fret decoration and entablature with
Greek key fret; late C20 panelled door with 3 rectangular
lights. Windows to second floor are late C19 plate-glass
sashes in plain reveals with sills, those to centre right
narrower; re-used early C19 12-pane sash with horns above
porch and similar 8-pane sash to right. Recessed section to
right has re-used early C19 12-pane sash to ground floor,
18-pane sash to first floor and plate-glass sash to second
floor; recessed section to left has mid C20 casement
fenestration. The early C19 wing is visible to the extreme
right, and has 6/6-pane sash to first floor; horned 6/6-pane
sash in gable end with kneelers.
INTERIOR: noted in 1992 as having retained early C19 joinery
and other features.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: fine late C19 conservatory attached to
south-east corner with apsidal east end; front boundary wall
with ashlar copings and 2 sets of square ashlar piers with
moulded caps.
The building was originally in the civil parish of Whitchurch,
but due to boundary changes it is now within the parish of
Keynsham. Principally included for its integral relationship
with St Keyna House (qv) and the retention of a fine late C19
conservatory.
