Detached house. Dated 1747 on stone at second-floor level,
with minor C19 alterations. Coursed and squared rubble with
stone dressings, ashlar copings and gabled pantile roof with
gable end stone stacks, that to east with brick cap.
PLAN: double-depth plan with rear gabled range (possibly
staircase well) and later rear outshuts.
EXTERIOR: 3-storey; 3-window range. Symmetrical north facade
with central doorway, windows in plain stone architraves and
continuous string-courses above ground and first-floor
windows. Ground floor has multi-paned C18 shop window to left
and C18 9/6-sash with thick glazing bars to right; first-floor
windows are 12-pane sashes, those to outer bays with horns; 2
small paired casements to second floor, further casement to
west return wall. 3 late C20 roof lights to rear roof slope
and casement fenestration to rear range. 6-panel door in plain
surround with flat stone hood on brackets.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: the building has been an inn and a shop and
also the village post office, hence the presence of an C18
shop window.
