SS91SW Burridge Farmhouse including stables

Estate farmhouse. Mid C19. Rubble walls with rendered front;
brick axial stack towards left, brick end stack on the right.
PLAN: overall U-shaped plan including 2-storey service wing
with dairy and stables at right angles to rear right, and
attached to rear courtyard wall is a single-storey range at
right angles to rear left that adjoins 2-storey stable block
at rear. The house has 3 rooms at the front and contains 2
staircases; lean-to pantry at rear right.
EXTERIOR: 2 storey; 5-window range. Segmental arches over
original 12-pane hornless sashes; the presumed kitchen window,
on the right, wider and tripartite with narrower sidelights.
Round-arched doorway central to 3-window range fenestration on
the left; spoked fanlight over original panelled and V-jointed
door. Unaltered rear has 12-pane sashes to 1st floor of house;
Ground floor of farmhouse has open verandah which is attached
to a small brick lean-to in front of the service wing. There
is a well and an iron pump under the verandah.
Service wing has original windows and doors except that the
original rear end 1st-floor doorway has been converted to a
window and has a fixed light with margin panes.
The other buildings are also unaltered and retain their
original doors and windows.
The stables have a symmetrical 2-window front with original
2-light shuttered windows.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Burridge is a good example of a mid C19 estate farmhouse that
relates well to its ancillary buildings.
