GV II

Barns, linhays and horse-engine house. Mid C19. Rubble walls,
part rendered, the horse-engine house weatherboarded to its
upper floor; dry slate roofs, the horse-engine house with
conical end.
PLAN: U-shaped plan overall: threshing barn at top of yard
with round-ended horse-engine house built on the yard side; on
slope at right angles to this is principal carriage entrance
and barn all under 1 roof and then there is an L-plan range of
low linhays with fronts now infilled.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; each barn a 1-window range. Original
window to threshing barn and original planked threshing doors
designed to provide varied ventilation combinations. The
carriage entrance has arched bracing to support the wall plate
of the roof. Horse-engine house has tapered rubble piers and
original curved weatherboarding.
INTERIOR: original queen-post roof structures; original beam
and joist floor structures.
Coombshead is a good example of a small model farm. The
horse-engine house is of a particularly striking design.
