848-1/2/63 Church of St Thomas


GV II

Anglican church. 1843 by Benjamin Ferrey, under the Rev.
William Rayer. Red local stone squared and brought to course;
dry slate roofs with coped gable ends; bellcote over west
gable. Middle Pointed style. Chancel with north vestry and
nave with south porch. Corner buttresses and buttresses
dividing bays.
EXTERIOR: 4-bay nave with 2-light windows with trefoil-headed
lights and quatrefoil tracery under hoodmoulds with varied
naturalistically-carved heads as stops; similar 3-light east
window and complex rose window to west end. Chancel vestry has
simple mullioned windows; the attached probable extension
north of the nave has a wide window with complex tracery.
INTERIOR: richly-coloured stained glass, and borders to
grisaille glass below. Tablets to Heathcote-Amorys.
