Farmhouse. Probably C16, remodelled C17 and early C20.
Rendered probable cob plus rubble extensions at rear; dry
slate roof with slightly projecting eaves; C17 rubble lateral
stack to rear right of centre, brick shaft added plus brick
end stacks at left and right and to rear gable on right.
PLAN: 3-room plan with parlour on the left of passage which
has C17 2-storey porch, hall right of passage with lateral
stack and room right of hall, plus service wing at right
angles to rear right with outshut on its left; slate-hung
presumed stair projection at rear towards right and outshut
behind hall stack; C20 lean-to conservatory at right of front.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; long 6-window range. Early C20 oak
mullioned windows to front and right-hand return, 3-light
windows except for leaded French windows to ground floor right
of porch and one 2-light window to left of 3-window range
right-hand return. Porch has early C19 Y-traceried window
above C17 doorway with cyma-moulded oak frame stopped above
moulded granite plinths. Inner doorway is also C17 with
similar moulding. Rear has small C17 oak mullioned window to
shallow projection right of central outshut, otherwise later
windows.
INTERIOR: noted as having good staircase of c1600 but not
inspected. Although originally a "seat" Higher Yearlstone has
been a farmhouse since the C18 but retains some features of
its former importance.
