Formerly known as: Higher Yearlstone including outbuildings
Yearlstone.
Farm buildings. Mid C19. Rubble walls with some brick arches;
dry slate roofs except for Roman clay tile to cart shed.
PLAN: overall F-shaped plan comprising L-plan 2-storey barns;
the principal taller barn parallel to the rear of the house,
the other barn parallel to the right-hand end of the house,
plus cartshed continued at front end of this barn and a range
of pigsties at right angles between the barn and the cartshed
towards the end of the house.
EXTERIOR: principal barn is an irregular 2-window range with
wooden barred windows; 3 1st-floor loading doorways, the
left-hand doorway approached by original stone steps, the
right-hand doorway approached by C20 steps. Ground floor has
blocked window at far left and 6-pane window towards right; 3
doorways; all doorways with ledged doors, some original.
Other barn has only one opening to 1st floor which is a
loading doorway above a doorway and there is another doorway
at far left; partly blocked doorway now with window towards
left plus original windows flanking doorway under loading
doorway, all with 6-pane windows with hopper heads; ledged
doors.
Pigsty has 4 doorways to courtyard side with old ledged doors.
4-bay cartshed is open at the front with the bays divided by
concrete block piers.
INTERIOR: cartshed has original king-post roof structure and
there is an old leaded mullioned window set in the end wall of
the adjoining barn.
This is a good and complete example of a model farm courtyard
group of farm buildings relating to a C16/C17 farmhouse.
