House, at one time an inn (old list description), now
subdivided. C17 or earlier. Rendered mass wall construction,
either stone rubble or cob; steep slate roof (asbestos slates
to rear); stacks with brick shafts.
PLAN: the building occupies a corner site between Bampton
Street and Silver Street. Single depth. Large axial stack to
Silver Street block indicating 2-room plan; 2- or 3-room plan
to Bampton Street.
EXTERIOR: Bampton Street elevation 2 storeys and 3 windows.
Ground floor has 3 over 3-pane sashes to left and right and 2
doors int he centre. left-hand door is 4 panel (upper panels
glazed) with a C20 half-glazed door to the right. 2 first
floor 3 over 3-pane sashes to the left. other right, the roof
rises as large attic gable glazed with a 3 over 3-pane sash.
The Silver Street elevation has a C20 glazed door to the left.
Tot he right there is a second C20 glazed door flanked by C20
2-light casements; 2 first floor probably C19 2-light
casements with small panes.
INTERIOR: unavailable for inspection at time of visit.
Note: No.96 Bampton Street and No.21 Silver Street were
previously listed separately.
