House, believed to have been divided into three cottages in
the 1950s; No.32 now used as office. 1720s or earlier.
MATERIALS: smooth-plastered mass wall construction to ground
floor front, thinner front wall to No.32 at least; left gable
end rebuilt in brick. Slate roof, natural slate to No.32; left
end stack with shaft dismantled; rear right lateral stack with
brick shaft and crested pot; No.32 has cast-iron rainwater
goods.
PLAN: single depth main range, 2 rooms wide (formerly extended
further to the left) with small courtyard to rear.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and basement. Asymmetrical 3-window front
with eaves cornice. Approximately central front door, the
upper panels glazed, with overlight. No.34 to right of centre
has a C20 6-panel door with fielded panels and tripartite sash
alongside with a 12-pane light in the centre and 4-pane outer
lights. No.32, to the right, has a former shop front with a
cornice and a C20 timber and glazed door with older pilastered
doorcase and a tripartite horned sash shop window with 4-pane
central light and outer 2-pane lights.
INTERIOR: No.32 preserves C18 2-panel doors and a small
cast-iron C19 grate and timber chimney-piece on the first
floor. Considerable timber replacement in the roof which is of
collar rafter design with nailed collars and butt purlins. The
trusses have carpenter's assembly marks and some evidence of
charring. No.36 has a boxed-in crossbeam and features of
interest may survive elsewhere, concealed by later wall
plaster etc.
