Balustrade and lamp post to Rock
Park Lodge

GV II

Balustrade and lamp standard. Probably 1879. Timber
balustrade, lamp standard cast-iron on a stone base. Free
Baroque style. The railings extend along New Road, forming the
boundary of the garden of Rock Park Lodge.
Balustrade has moulded brick plinth with heavy turned
balusters of a C17 character. Lamp standard on square-section
pedestal with sunk panels with 4 gables and an octagonal base
to the standard. Standard, stamped Geo. Smith and Co., Sun
Foundry, Glasgow. Standard has heavy S-shaped scrolled
brackets; anthemion decoration and a scrolly ladder rest.
Tapering cylindrical lamp with conical finial.
Rock Park was opened in 1879. It was laid out by RD Gould.
