Pair of lamp standards with pedestals. Probably 1879, with
late C20 tops. Limestone pedestals; cast-iron standards.
Pedestals square in section with panelled sides; moulded caps
with triangular pediment on each side enclosing octagonal
bases for standards. Latter have round, tapered shafts, fluted
and enriched, buttressed at the foot by 4 scrolls. Further
scrolls projecting horizontally below moulded cap, from which
rises a late C20 shaft and electric-lamp holder. The original
tops are shown in an early C20 photograph belonging to Knights
Photographers of Barnstaple (No F241).
HISTORICAL NOTE: Rock Park was opened in 1879, having been
laid out by RD Gould.
