Hostel. 1841. Stucco with cornice and parapet with additional cornice. On corner site with St George's Road. 3 storeys and basement, 3 bays. Central 1-bay section slightly projecting with quoins. Ground floor with banded rustication has centre piece of pilasters framing door and sash windows to margins, frieze and break-front cornice above. Sash windows in outer bays with keystones. Casement windows to upper floors, those to 1st floor with architraves, that in centre with pediment on console brackets, those to 2nd floor in plain reveals, some with iron guards. Foundation stone reads: "This stone was laid by HRH the Duke of Cambridge, assisted by the Right Reverend the Bishop of Winchester on the 28 day of May AD 1841". Canted 3-bay return to right with similar details. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUSBIDIARY FEATURES: cast-iron area railings.
