TQ3577SW OLD KENT ROAD 636-1/42/550 (South side) 14/05/75 Nos.880, 882 AND 884

3 houses. c1815. Builder: John Lamb, a timber merchant. Stucco with cornice with paired brackets (missing to Nos 882-4) and blocking course above a delicate anthemion frieze. 3 storeys, 2 bays each. Ground floors concealed by projecting C20 shops. Houses divided by giant fluted pilasters with ammonite capitals (a motif popularized by Amon Wilds at Brighton and now very rare in London) supporting segmental arches over 2nd-floor windows. Square-headed sash windows with glazing bars in moulded architraves (No.880 has casements on 1st floor). INTERIOR: not inspected. Originally part of a larger terrace, most of which was demolished to build the railway in 1865.
