Turntable and machinery of former swing bridge, once spanning Russia Dock Passage. Late C19. By Sir WG Armstrong, Mitchell & Co Ltd. Restored 1980s. a good example of the working parts of a hydraulic swing bridge. Hand-operated iron capstan on south-east side of bridge. Larger, hydraulic capstan on north-east side of bridge.
