GV II

Large warehouse granary with long returns running back towards St Marychurch Street. c1850-51, partly demolished to south following fire in 1974. Yellow stock brick with slate roof behind pair of gable ends to street, plain parapet copings to returns. Street elevation of 4 storeys, 3 bays to each gable with oculi at tops. 2 hatch ranks with gantry gangways across to Nos 101 & 103 (qv). Small 2-light windows with cambered arches, those to ground floor longer and with metal grilles. West elevation has 2 return bays from front projecting from main range of 7 bays. Hatch rank on 2nd and 3rd floor of 2 bay projection. Window details similar to street front. Slate roof divided by firewall and small clerestorey ventilator to right-hand ridge. INTERIOR: entirely of timber except for a few cast-iron cruciform-section stanchions on ground-floor; the timber posts with bracket spreader caps, a queen post roof. Empty and derelict at time of survey. Part of one of the best remaining groups of warehouses on the Thames, clustering around the spire of St Mary Rotherhithe, St Marychurch Street (qv). Strong group value with Nos 101 & 103 Rotherhithe Street (qv), to which it is joined by gantry gateways across the street. Just predates the 2nd period of expansion in this part of the docklands.
