Hospital administration block with attached ward block. 1904. By ET Hall. Brick in Flemish bond with stone dressings. Hipped roofs of slate. EXTERIOR: administrative block to the left is a symmetrical composition; central part of 3 storeys 8 windows with central tapering wooden clock faces with metal cupola and finial above. End 3 bays separated by full-height Ionic columns. Central 2 bays are recessed. Mullioned and transomed casements, 3-light to centre. Elaborate end chimneystacks with alternate horizontal strips of brick and tone. Central doorcase has curved stone hood supported on massive stone brackets. At each end are 2-storey projecting wings with 5-light mullioned and transomed window to 1st floor and 6-light curved bay to ground floor. Behind are 3-storey towers with deep stone parapets. Attached by a 1-storey link with 3 segmental-headed arches with decorative metal grilles is the ward block an asymmetrical building, also of red brick with stone dressings and slate roof. 3 storeys and attics, irregular fenestration, mainly sashes but mullioned windows to bays. To the extreme right-hand side is a projecting 3-storey canted bay with half-dome and doorcase with flat stone cornice and ramped up panel behind. To the left are 5 windows and cast-iron balcony railings. Nearly central 3-storey tower with 4 small octagonal stone turrets, pyramidal roof having elaborate weathervane, sashes and round-headed doorcase. To the left of the tower is a futher wing with 3 windows terminated by a 4-storey wing with full-height bay to right-hand side and 3 further windows. INTERIOR: the staircase block has staircases with iron stick balusters and iron finials to wooden handrails.
