Block of flats with shops. 1905-6. By the LCC Architects' Department and attributed by Susan Beattie to Roger Stark. MATERIALS: red brick in Flemish bond, stone copings and dressings. Glazed brick to recessed balcony ranges on rear of block. Roof of tile. PLAN: rectangular. EXTERIOR: 5 storeys or 4 storeys with dormers; balconies to rear elevations, giving access to flats; stair towers. The roof has broad, sweeping eaves carried on elegant metal brackets, a feature repeated on each of the 5 parallel blocks forming this estate. All openings are either flat- or segmental-arched, with sash windows of authentic design. INTERIOR: not inspected. The 5 blocks, consisting of Mawdley House, Dauncey House, Algar House, Delarche House and Overy House (qqv), all follow a roughly similar design, having the same overall plan (one side balconied, the other not), 4 storeys, and are constructed from the same range of materials. Although the design of each individual block bears some resemblance to the LCC Boundary Estate (London Borough of Tower Hamlets), which was being completed when Stark joined the Council Architects' Department, the Webber Row Estate has a strongly individual character which was very likely introduced by the architect.
