Merchant's house. C17, much restored in the C20. Mixed rubble with some dressed stone quoins, render on timber frame under the oriel windows; steep dry slate roof with coped gable end on the right and 2 raking half dormers. Shallow-depth plan. 3 storeys with 2nd floor partly in roof space; 2-window range. Moulded C17 or restored canted oak mullioned oriels to upper floors, the splayed sides carried on shaped brackets, hipped slate roofs over the 1st-floor windows. Ground floor has transomed windows: 3-light window to far left and a 5-light window on the right; all windows with leaded glazing with diamond panes; doorway and tall window under the left-hand oriels. INTERIOR: rebuilt without any original features. Part of a significant group of C17 and C18 houses. (The Buildings of England: Pevsner N: Devon: London: 1989-: 664).
