Town house with later shop. Early-mid C18. Painted brick to front, slatehanging to rear wing; dry slate steep roofs except that lower roof at far rear is tarred over the slates, the front roof is half-hipped and has deep moulded eaves with modillion cornice both at front and at rear, the rear roofs hipped at their rear ends. Single-depth-plan range at the front and deep wing at right angles to rear left. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; regular 4-window range. C18 or early C19 hornless sashes with glazing bars except for 1 later horned sash to rear wing. Front has plinth, mid-floor bands and segmental arches above the 1st and 2nd-floor windows. Ground floor has simple mid C19 shopfront on the left and wide segmental-arched doorway on the right. The shopfront has pair of 2-pane hornless sashes on its left and overlight to narrow doorway on its right. Rear wing facing to right is a 2:2-window range plus 2 small lights inserted in the C20. The right-hand part has paired sashes including pair of C18 sashes with thick glazing bars on the right. INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to be of interest. Part of a significant group of C17 and C18 houses. (The Buildings of England: Pevsner N: Devon: London: 1989-: 664).
