GV II

Warehouses and former chapel. C18 and C19. Plymouth limestone
rubble, most with brick jambs and arches; dry slate and
asbestos slate roofs, most with gable ends; many cast-iron
ogee gutters. Large irregular corner-site plan almost
enclosing a small courtyard, the late C19 chapel was converted
from an C18 warehouse and a chapel front was added.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and 3 storeys. The taller corner block is
a 6:1:3:2-window range, the single window over a blind window
and doorway to the canted corner, and the right-hand part
stepped down to 2 storeys; segmental arches and many original
sashes with glazing bars. Set back on right is the 3-bay
chapel front under 2 steep crow-stepped gables of the old
warehouse with moulded entablature below. There are 3 pairs of
keyed round-arched window openings with C20 windows. 3-bay
entrance built forward to ground floor has projecting narrow
central entrance bay with gable on gable with traceried
oculus. Beneath this is a doorway with a shouldered head plus
similar openings set back at left and right with moulded
cornice above.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
A curious example of an evolved group, part becoming a chapel
and later reverting to commercial use.
Included for historical and group value.
