Pair of villas at the front end of a planned group. 1860s.
Stucco with stucco detail; roof behind balustraded parapet
with moulded cornice; stuccoed end stacks, most with moulded
entablature. Double-depth plan, narrower at rear, each house
with probably 2 front rooms flanking an entrance hall fronted
by a small porch.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys plus attic over basement; overall
symmetrical 1:3:3:1-window front with end bays projecting.
Horned sashes or French windows to segmental-arched 1st-floor
openings. Mostly rusticated ground floor has flat arches to
tripartite sashes to end bays and paired sashes to centre
bays. Porches under 2nd window from left or right have
pilastered doorways and pilastered side return bays, and
panelled and balustraded parapets over moulded entablature
with brackets; overlights and panelled doors. Rear is 1:2:2:1
bays with end bays broken forward and with balustraded and
bracketed canted bays to ground floor. No.1 has moulded eared
architraves and there is a mullioned and transomed glazed
1st-floor conservatory with blind balustraded apron to
left-hand return towards the angle.
INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to reflect the high quality
of the exterior.
Part of a distinctive planned group of semi-detached villas.
